Hey, there. We’re glad you’re here.

You may have previously known us as Neurodivergent Friends & Dating in Washington, D.C. on Meetup.com.

This all began in 2023. Our group’s founder, Kate Woodward, was frustrated by the lack of local communities geared toward neurodivergent adults. As a Relationship Coach & Matchmaker that primarily works with neurodivergent folks, she wanted to direct her clients to local social settings in which they could make platonic and romantic connections that would enrich their daily lives. She finally decided to create her own group.

Just over a year later, we now have 500+ members.

FAQs

  • This community is for anyone in or near the Washington, D.C. metro area that is aged 21+ and genuinely seeking new connections, whether platonic and/or romantic.

Currently, the majority of our members are between the ages of 25 and 45, and while the group is predominantly male, we’ve been pleased to welcome more women and non-binary folks into our community, especially in recent months.

The majority of our community seem to self-identify as having “low support needs” and identify most closely with the (no longer formally recognized) diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome.

The bottom line is that whether you have a formal neurodivergent diagnosis, feel neurodivergent without one, or simply wish to meet new people, you’ll find a place here.

What does “neurotypical” really mean, anyway?

  • Click here to sign up to become a member of our group. We can’t wait to meet you!

We will cease to use our account on the Meetup website at the end of 2024.

  • Our group aims to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and appreciated.

We strongly encourage members to be generous and open-minded, especially to new members.

We know it takes a great deal of courage to step into an unfamiliar social setting. We expect everyone to show respect to others, even if someone in the community may present or behave differently than expected or desired.

However, harassment, racism, and disrespectful behavior of any kind are simply not tolerated.

We expect, if a member is able, that they will consider supporting the group financially to help cover the expenses associated with running the group to include, but not be limited to, maintaining the website, marketing, event supplies, party refreshments, and venue reservations. We rely on donations to help keep events affordable and reduce the significant financial burden on our organizers.

However, we realize that many of our members may not currently be employed or able to work and are consequently living on a tight budget. We don’t want a lack of funds to prevent any members from participating. If you fall into this category, contact us and we will figure out a way to assist you. We don’t want finances to stop you from feeling like you’re a part of this community.

  • No! Many members join simply to make friends and aren’t interested in romantic relationships. If you’d like to connect with local singles, you may consider joining our founder Kate Woodward’s free single’s database (this provides you with an opportunity to potentially be matched for a date with one of her matchmaking clients in the future).

“I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come as a community in such a short amount of time. With my job, I am all too familiar with how crucial our relationships are to the quality of our daily lives. I hope the success of this group inspires more welcoming and joyful spaces in the Washington, D.C. area for neurodivergent folks. We all desire meaningful connections in inclusive environments.”

This group has been a labor of love for Kate, and our team is hoping to continue growing and partnering with local leaders and institutions in order to provide higher-quality events and more significant support to our members.
